A sofa colour that lasts past the season
Morandi tones work because they are mixed with grey before they ever reach the room. A slate wool sofa can take a blush cushion or a brass lamp and still look settled. If the floor is oak, stay away from yellow-beige upholstery; it will fight the timber. If the walls are white, a slightly cooler grey gives the sofa an edge so it does not melt into the plaster. Leave one quiet surface nearby, a low table or a side piece, so the seating has somewhere to rest a book.
