Choosing a chair that stays quiet

Start with the room, not the catalogue. Measure the gap between table and wall, then leave enough air for a chair to pull back without hitting a sideboard. Pale timber reads lighter than it weighs, so a lime or sage shell can sit in a small dining room without closing it in. Avoid glossy lacquer if the table already has a strong grain. Matte fabric and open legs keep the floor visible, which is what makes a compact room feel finished rather than filled.
